Study Day Saturday 6th June 2015
Palazzetto Bru Zane, Venice
In partnership with the Gilles Caron Foundation, and on the occasion of the publication of the first issue of “Cahiers de la Fondation Gilles Caron”, the Bru Foundation is organizing a colour photo display of the artist’s works: about twenty pictures will be exhibited during the next “Biennale di Venezia” of contemporary art.
The recent discovery of a collection of very limited-circulation Ektachromes is at the origin of the creation of “Cahiers de la Fondation Gilles Caron”, directly linked to its research activity. These colour photographs of Gilles Caron, who is especially known for his work with black and white photography show his relationship with the camera shot in a new light. Seeing that our memory of contemporary history exists mainly in black and white whilst photojournalists have also worked in colour, the Gilles Caron Foundation would like to open a debate on the place of colour in the processing of information. This theme is at the heart of a study day organised for 6th June, related to the photo display.
Art historians, curators, photographers and some students will come to the Palazzetto Bru Zane for this meeting organised by Michel Poivert, professor of History of Art at the Hicson Laboratory (social and cultural history of art) University of Paris I Panthéon.
Speakers will notably include :
- Nathalie Boulouche, researcher at the University of Rennes II, senior lecturer in photography and the history of contemporary art
- Valérie Perles, director of the Albert Kahn Museum
- Audrey Leblanc, researcher in visual culture, School of Advanced Studies in social science and the history of photography
- Roland Dufau, director of the Dufau Laboratory
- Louis Bachelot and Marjolaine Caron, photographers
- Philippe Chancel, photographer
This day is open to all, subject to availability of places. If you wish to participate, please register by e-mail at: at@fondation-bru.org
